Erb's Fall Classic at Whynot cut short
Defending Coors Light Fall Classic winner Tyler Erb returned to Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Mississippi, over the weekend as the quarter-mile oval hosted the 8th annual event.
A 48-car Super Late Model field was split into two groups for Friday night’s twin preliminary features. Erb began his weekend with a runner-up finish in his heat race before notching a seventh-place result in the preliminary feature.
Back in action on Saturday, the New Waverly, Texas native powered past Ashton Winger to claim an eight-lap heat race victory, securing a second-row starting spot for the $20,000-to-win main event.
In the 60-lap affair, Erb set the pace early, leading the opening 35 laps before relinquishing the top spot. A late-race surge brought him back into contention, but a last-lap attempt to pass Ethan Dotson for second resulted in contact with the wall in the final corner, relegating him to an 11th-place finish at the checkers.
